This year for Halloween, we went to Boo at the Zoo. Daddy works nights, so Mommy taking the boys trick or treating on a Monday night was just out of the question. We did some trick or treating at Boo at the Zoo, and they never knew the difference. And we had a ball! Love these monkeys so much!

Someone does not like his diapers. Sad part is, he's not interested in potty training in the least bit. And after potty training one boy, I am not going to beat myself up over it this go around. We'll work on it when he shows interest. This happens more times than not around here. Now I have gotten smarter, so Andrew does not go to bed without pants on. Sometimes he still manages to get his diaper off. He just prefers to be free, I guess. Must be a man thing...

Hayden Fall Festival 2011

It's Been a While...

Okay...I know, I know...I've been absolutely horrible at keeping up with my blog. We have been so super busy over the past 2 months. So, for a quick re-cap, here's what we've been up to for the past 2 months...

The boys have started preschool. They are at First Baptist in Pleasant Grove, and so far it's been pretty good, except for the fact that it's so dang expensive! Trevor is loving it, and Andrew....well, let's just say he's in time-out more times than not when I pick him up. At least 2 or 3 days out of the week, he's sitting in the time out chair when I pick him up. I've accepted the fact that we all have one child that's a handful, and he's definitely mine. He makes Trevor look like an angel...halo and all!

I have started a new job. Yes, after 7 years in the ER I have ventured out. Even though the ER will always be my heart, and I will miss my friends tremendously, I was in desperate need of a change. I am still at Children's Hospital though. I don't think I will ever have the desire to work with adults. Anyways, I am now working as a Nurse Clinician in the Neurology Clinic. I have only been there for 2 weeks, and I absolutely love it. Once I get the hang of everything, it will be even better. All of the people in the department are SO nice and helpful. The 2 doctors that I will be working for are super nice too, and that's a plus : ) I am really excited about it!

Trevor had a tonsilectomy and adenoidectomy last week, so we have been couped up in the house for the past 4 days. I am just about to go nuts. He is doing good, at least while he is medicated, but the minute that Lortab and Motrin start to wear off, he is not fun to be around. So we are alternating meds around the clock. We had a really bad night last night, but for the most part, he has really been a trooper. Considering what his throat looks like, I would be a basket case! Kids are so much tougher than adults!

Our house is still on the market, but hopefully soon we'll get lucky and be able to sell! I have caught the blog up from the last 2 months, and hopefully I won't get this behind again! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

On September 10, my sweet baby turned 2...yes TWO! I cannot believe it has been 2 years since I had this little monkey. He is the busiest, spunkiest, roudiest, sweetest little boy in the world. One minute, I'm ready to tear his butt up, and the next minute he's flashing that precious smile. He is a handle and a half, but I don't know what I'd do without him. Happy Birthday sweet angel. Mommy loves you more than you'll ever know!

Can I just say that we will not be using sunscreen from Dollar General anymore! One of our many weekends at the lake, I forgot the boys' sunscreen, so I used some the extra that my mom has stocked at her house. Well, as soon as I put it on Andrew's face, his little eyes started watering, and his whole face started swelling, especially his eyes. It was kinda scary, but I gave him some benedryl, and he was soon back to normal! You can't really tell from the pictures, but that's why his little face was so red!

These are some pictures of Mom and Dad's house in PG. It's actually finished now, and I'll have to take some pictures of the finished product. It's beautiful now, and looks and smells like a brand new house on the inside. Since I've taken these pictures, the yard is cleaned up and a new fence was put up, the back deck has been screened, shutters put up, and the inside is complete. It's just kind of depressing without any trees around... : (

I thought the gorilla in the bottom picture was pregnant, so I took a picture of "her"...I was so excited, I asked a guy that worked there, "hey is that gorilla pregnant?" This is my parent's lab, Moe Henry. He's old as dirt, and I'm absolutely convinced that this dog has nine lives! We got him when he was just a baby when I was 19. He's been hit by a car, and this past spring, he survived a monster tornado! He is now living at the lake with my mom and dad, and he is loving it!

I think it is safe to say that I have been the world's worst blogger this summer. We have just been sooo busy. We have been swimming alot at our Aunt Becky's house, and I wish that I had another set of arms so that I could take some pictures. I can't turn my back for half a second with Andrew around. He is so quick to climb up the slide ladder, or try to jump off the diving board. He has absolutely NO fear where water is concerned...which is a scary thing for me! Maybe next time we swim, I will make it a point to take pictures.

We have also been busy getting our house ready to sell. So if anyone out there wants a super cute, well kept 2 bedroom house in Hueytown....come on to the Cox House!! We are just ready for a larger house....it's time! We are probably going to go toward Shelby County...Pelham, Helena, Chelsea...somewhere in that general area.

We have also been spending alot of time at the lake. My parents bought a house on Lay Lake right before the tornado, and it's a really good thing they did, or they wouldn't have had anywhere to live for the past 3 months. Their house in PG is almost ready to be lived in once again, but I don't know if they'll move back. I miss having them just 10 minutes down the road sooo bad!

Sooooo, I will have to be better about blogging. It's just so hard in the summertime! We are so busy!

This year, we went to the top of Children's parking deck to watch Thunder on the Mountain. The boys liked the fireworks for the first 3 minutes, and then it got old. I'm such an overgrown child, I had to watch them until the end. It was a good time, though!

We had Trevor's t-ball team party at the Baron's game last month. The boys had a great time - even though only 4 of them showed up! It was pouring down rain right before the game, and there was a rain delay. All in all, I think the boys had a great time, especially Mr. Andrew!

This one here is a handful. Let me just tell you a little story about him. So, Sunday was our last day staying with the Harrison's, and it was Brady Cole's birthday party. Toward the end of the party, I got the boys inside, dried off, and dressed. (They had a big water slide and 2 baby pools). I still had to load some things into my car, so I told Trevor that I was going to shut the door behind me, so that his brother couldn't get loose. I said, "stay right here with brother, and I'll be back in 2 seconds". "Okay Momma", says Trevor. So, I grab our bags and run, knowing that it's only a matter of seconds before Andrew escaped. When I got back in the house, the door to the room was open...my kids were gone. After a few profanities escaped my mouth, the search was on....Nowhere in the house was Andrew. Trevor was in the play room. "Where is your brother?"...."I don't know". I ran outside, and there he was...in full sprint to the baby pool...fully clothed mind you. Well...too late. Soaked! So you can imagine how frustrated I was. I have never been so mad at him. But now, looking back, it was pretty dang funny. He is just B-A-D! ALL BOY...full of life and energy, and he NEVER stops. My momma always told me that I would have a child like Jake, my baby brother. Well, mom...Andrew is Jake...on steroids!!

We went to Happy Harbor Grill (I think that's the name). It's actually the old restaurant that we used to work at when we lived down there together 9 years ago. It's under different management, but the food was A-mazing!! Many, many memories were made at this place in 2002, so we just wanted to go back and visit!

Well...I have to say, the boys are gonna be alot like their momma and LOVE the beach and ocean! Andrew loves it a little too much for my comfort, though. Needless to say, going to the beach is not a relaxing experience as it was before having children! I never sat down, and ended up being more tired than the boys by the end of the day! It was still a blast, though. I just enjoy watching their little faces!! They had so much fun in the sun!

I finally convinced them to let me get some of them! Trevor kept saying, "I'm not Trevor, I'm Mr. Simmons" - not quite sure where that came from, or who the real Mr. Simmons is, but whatever. It was so funny! He has gotten to that stage where his imagination is outrageous...well, come to think of it, it always has been! He's a nut....takes after his momma a little too much!

Wow....what a day, what a day. Started out as a really weird day, and got weirder and weirder as the day went on. That morning, for some reason my boys decided to sleep late...like 10:30 late, and I woke up to my older brother walking through my house. He came over to check on us, because no one could get in touch with us....because I was taking advantage of this joy that I do not get to indulge in very often, that is called sleep. Joe and my mother had been trying to call me all morning, apparently. That morning we had some bad weather, and they were just thinking the worst, I guess! My brother quickly left, because he had to go pick up my neice from school....surprise, surprise, the schools were letting out early for the bad weather that was to come. I remember sighing, and saying, "really....is it that bad?"

I immediately called Joe, asking him if he thought I should pack up the boys and head to my parents' house in Pleasant Grove. We like to go there when there is really bad weather, because we don't have anywhere to go underground here at our house. Plus, it gives me an excuse to go hang out with my folks! : ) I remember it taking forever and a day to get to my mother's house, because we couldn't find any drive thru in Hueytown that was not jam-packed. All we wanted was a Happy Meal people!! It was like 1:00 in the afternoon....where are all you people coming from?!? I still had yet to watch the weather, so I had no clue what was to come, or how bad this weather was going to be. I just remember the tone in Joe's voice when I asked him if I should go to Mother's, all he said was "YES".

So, off to PG we went with our Happy Meals! Yay, we get to spend the day with Mi Mi!! I even took a couple baskets of laundry over there, so I could catch up on some laundry! We were watching the weather the whole time, and I just couldn't believe how many tornados were popping up. My Dad got home around 4 or so, and Joe actually got to leave work early, so he was there about 5 or so. My brother Davy, who also lives in Hueytown also came over with his wife and 3 kiddos. We watched the tornado rip through Tuscaloosa, but it still didn't seem that real to me...it just didn't sink in I guess. The last thing we heard before losing cable, was that this monster of a tornado was headed straight for Hueytown/Bessemer. Now, when the tornado in 1998 came through, Daddy could hear it from his house, so he thought it would be wise to go out on the front porch and "listen" for it. Just then I heard, "Y'all come here!" Over the trees we saw the darkest, ugliest cloud you could imagine creeping up. We heard a roaring noise....that's all I needed, I was gone, both kids on my hips, straight to the basement, in the deepest corner of mom and dad's basement that was completely underground. I had both of my kids in the headlock, one wrapped in each arm, hunkered down like you learn in elementary school! My sister in law, Erin had her kids right beside us. Just then, our ears started popping. I knew it was here at that point. Then Joe and my brother Davy grabbed all of the cushions off the couch, and covered me, Erin, and the kids up. My mom and dad were huddled up with us. We were all packed in that corner of the basement.

Just then, the sounds that no one should have to hear will forever be burned in my memory. The loudest roaring that you could imagine...not like a freight train, more like a jet that was getting closer, and closer. It was even hard to breath there for a minute, from all of the pressure I guess. I just kept praying a silent prayer, "God, please protect my babies, please protect my babies and my family....you can take me, just don't let anything bad happen to my family." With the sound of the roaring, I then started to smell fresh dirt, and the strong smell of pine. I knew it was bad. And then, as fast as it came...it was gone.

Words can't described what I felt when I looked outside....everything was gone. I felt like I'd been punched so hard in the stomach. I posted alot of pictures of what we saw on the way out of the neighborhood that next day. Just complete and utter destruction. I am just thankful that we were able to walk out of there. There were so many people that lost everything, even family members, and I still pray for them daily. My home town of Pleasant Grove may never be the same, but what I saw that night, people coming together of all ages, gender, race...doing everything in their power to help one another. That was truly amazing.

As you can see, the house ACROSS THE STREET was demolished. The tornado just took the whole top of it off. Which is what most of the street looked like. And most of the houses on the street that were still standing looked like they were gutted. My parents only had 1 window to blow out. Wow is all I can say....

There are really no words to describe this picture...it speaks for itself. My Daddy is the strongest person I know. He has been through alot over the past few years, and I hate that he is having to deal with all of this. But I know he'll get through it, just like he does everything. He just does, no whimpering or whining about it, he just does what needs to be done. I love you so much Daddy...you'll never know how much I look up to you and respect you!

I don't know how this back porch survived, but not much on it did! Of the 20-30 trees that were down in the yard...not one of them went through the house. I don't really see how this happened, but it did. There is absolutely nothing standing that surrounds Mom and Dad's house. It now looks like a desert out there, with a broken house standing on it.

Here's our vehicles. Needless to say, they were all totalled out. When you think about what all could have been lost, a car is just so minor. I wasn't all that upset about mine to be honest...she was gettin' old, and I was gonna be needing a newer one real soon. I was, however, enjoying not having a car payment!

The whole time Andrew was playing with the eggs, he kept saying, "ball". This picture is so funny, because he spotted Trevor's "balls" and decided to steal them, and scatter them all over the place. Needless to say, that was a nasty fight that I had to play referee in!

We had a good time hunting for eggs this year. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Andrew thought the eggs resembled "balls", and all he wanted to do was throw them. There toward the end, it just turned into one big smashed boiled egg mess....but it was fun!

I think next year we're going with dye-free eggs. We had dye from head to toe! We had a great time making our eggs this year, just Trevor and me. We tried to let little Andrew participate, but he kept throwing the eggs (he's obscessed with balls).

Well, Andrew has successfully mastered how to escape his crib. This all started about a month ago. He was at Felecia's (his babysitter's), and she informed me one afternoon when I picked him up that he was able to get out of the pack and play. Well, that same evening, I put him in his crib while I was doing some laundry. (Some days he is so destructive....I can't even stop to do something as simple as laundry without him tearing the house down). I had most of the clothes scattered all over the living room, and in walks Mr. Andrew with a big ole butt crack grin on his face...as if he'd accomplished something big! So I put him back in his crib, got my camera....and 5 seconds later....this is what he was doing. It's actually quite a fall...he's just mastered the "tuck and roll" pretty well!

This thing is a mess....just when I think I can't have a child any wilder, rougher, or messier....he proves me wrong. He is always in his own little world, destroying something. If he gets quiet, you better be looking for him, because he is being destructive somewhere. He puts his big brother to absolute shame. I love it though, wouldn't have him any other way!

Play Ball!

I have waited 4 years for this! I have always loved baseball (and softball), so when Trevor decided that he wanted to play I was so happy. I always said that I would not push him to do anything that he didn't want to do. He's been loving it, and it's really good for him. Yesterday was Trevor's first baseball game, and we had a blast! We started out with the parade at 9:00, then opening day ceremonies at the field. Then, our game wasn't until 2:00, so you can imagine how cranky and tired all of these 3 and 4 year olds were.

I've got to hand it to our coach, and all of the guys helping coach (including Joe). Rounding up all of the players is kinda like herding a bunch of cattle. They are running every which 'a way, and getting them to stay in one place is a challenge. Our boys do a great job, though!

To say that this game was funny is an understatement. I haven't laughed so hard in a while. I don't know what was funnier...watching them play, or watching my dad watch them play. I really enjoyed it, and look forward to many more Saturdays at the field!

Poor guy...he's just a pouter, what can I say? He was sad that his balloon popped. I kept trying to explain that we'd get another one, as soon as the ceremony was over, but he wasn't having it.

I didn't get to take alot of pictures from the parade, because the boys rode in Joe's truck, and I rode in the passenger's side. The boys were so excited and had a blast! They were more worried about eating the candy than anything!

Well, the time has come for baseball. We are playing t-ball and it is the cutest thing I've ever seen. The boys have absolutely no attention span, and half (maybe all) of them don't know what's going on. They just love running around everywhere!

I think Andrew has more desire to play ball than Trevor. He's gonna be one of those kids that starts out super early. He throws a fit to go on the field every time Trevor has ball practice. As you can see, he is loving it!
